Lencho's Hope of Good Harvest
Lencho was a farmer who lived on the crest (peak) of a low hill with his family. His was the only house in the entire valley. His field was full of ripe corn and easily visible from the house. He was eagerly waiting for a good rain to have a good harvest so he could earn money for his family.
Lencho's Hope Turned into Despair
As Lencho had expected, it started raining at the time of supper (dinner). This made Lencho happy. He went outside to feel the rain on his body. The raindrops falling from the sky were like new coins for Lencho. However, suddenly strong winds began to blow and hailstones started to fall. The storm continued for about an hour and the corn fields were completely destroyed. The field now was covered with snow like a layer of white salt.
Lencho's Firm Belief in God
Though Lencho was a poor farmer and had lost all his crops, he had firm faith in God. He found in God his last hope and decided to write a letter to God for help. He asked God to send him a hundred pesos so that he could sow his field again and support his family until the new crops were harvested. He also wrote that if God didn't help him, his family would die of hunger.
The Postmaster's Reaction to Lencho's Letter
In the post office, a postman found the Lencho's letter and laughed after seeing the address on it. He took the letter to the postmaster.
The postmaster was kind and friendly person. As the postmaster read the letter, he realised that the sender (Lencho) had a true belief and faith in God. So, he decided to help the sender.
To help and keep the faith of Lencho in God, the postmaster requested his employees and friends to give some money. He also gave a part of his salary. But, he failed to collect hundred pesos and collected only seventy pesos. He, then put the money in an envelope and signed it as God.
Lencho Recieves the Money
Next Sunday, Lencho again visited the post office and got his letter. Initially, he became happy to see the money but after counting the money he became angry. It was seventy pesos while he had asked for hundred pesos.
Lencho Writes Another Letter
Lencho believed that God could not make a mistake. So, he wrote a letter again. After writing his letter, Lencho again posted it. As soon as he left, the postmaster took out his letter and read it.
In this Letter, Lencho had written that he had received only 70 pesos and requested the God to send the remaining money. He also requested the God not to send the money through post because the post office employees were a bunch of crooks (dishonest persons), who might have stolen his money.

लेन्चो की अपेक्षा के अनुरूप, रात के भोजन के समय वर्षा होने लगी। इससे लेन्चो प्रसन्न हो गया। वह वर्षा की बूँदों को अपने शरीर पर महसूस करने हेतु बाहर गया। आसमान से गिरती बारिश की बूँदें लेन्चो के लिए नए सिक्कों के समान थीं। किन्तु अचानक तेज़ हवाएँ चलने लगीं एवं ओले गिरने लगे। तूफान एक घण्टे तक लगातार जारी रहा एवं मक्का के खेत पूर्ण रूप से नष्ट हो गए। खेत अब सफेद नमक जैसी दिखने वाली बर्फ की सतह से ढक गया था।
लेन्चो का ईश्वर में दृढ़ विश्वास
हालाँकि लेन्वो एक गरीब किसान था एवं उसकी सभी फसलों का नुकसान हो गया था, किन्तु उसे ईश्वर में दृढ़ विश्वास था। उसे ईश्वर से ही अपनी अन्तिम आशा थी इसीलिए उसने ईश्वर से सहायता माँगने हेतु उन्हें एक पत्र लिखने का निर्णय किया। उसने ईश्वर से सौ पीसोज को भेजने के लिए कहाँ जिससे वह अपना खेत पुनः जोत सके एवं नई फसल की पैदावार तक अपने परिवार का भरण-पोषण कर सके। उसने यह भी लिखा कि यदि ईश्वर ने उसकी सहायता नहीं की तो उसका परिवार भूख से मर जाएगा। से
लेन्चो के पत्र पर पोस्टमास्टर की प्रतिक्रिया
डाकघर में, एक डाकिये को लेन्चो का पत्र मिला और वह उस पत्र पर लिखा पता पढ़कर हँसा (हँसने लगा)। वह पोस्टमास्टर के पास पत्र लेकर गया। पोस्टमास्टर एक दयालु एवं मित्रवत् व्यक्ति थे।
